If anyone here suffers from Spontaneous pneumothorax either now or in the past?

do you find that stress and anxiety increase recurrence? Two years ago I had a spont. pnumothorax in my left side. Needle aspiration didn't work and a chest drain was put in place to keep my lung up while I waited surgery for a pluraectomy. Now my left side is fine but I suffer spont. pnumothorax in my right side regularly. I know this sounds nuts to any medical dudes out there but bear with me. I have defects over my lungs called bulla's or blebs. Small blister like weak spots on my lungs. It is these that 'burst open' and allow the air to seep through. The air can get in on one breath, and return the next or sometimes the air gets in, stays for a few hours, then dissappears as if by magic again. I am convinced that for some strange reason the regularity of these small spont. pnumo. happens when I am stressed or anxious. Anyone else find this. I gotta be lucky here as spont' pnumo is a very rare occurance but I am just curious and hopeful someone else out there knows. ^^

Primary pneumothorax is an unusual problem. It seems to occur in individuals of a certain build (tall and thin) and with no predisposing lung disease. Secondary pneumothorax occurs as a result of a disease that affects your lungs, such as emphysema (from smoking).

Though I don't have enough information and can't speak with any certainty, it sounds like you're describing symptoms that remind you of a pneumothorax. However, without physical examination and/or x-rays, you cannot tell that when you have these symptoms, you're actually experiencing a real pneumothorax. If you have a lot of anxiety and stress, other conditions can mimic the same symptoms, which would only make your anxiety worse.

I think it's a good idea to see a thoracic surgeon. He'll examine you and give you some treatment options. In most cases, surgery is not necessary. And if you have shortness of breath, chest pain, or other serious symptoms, you should go to the ER or call 911.
Reply:I suffer from the same thing, it's called ABD and yes! stress does agitate it. I have had 4 surgeries (twice on each side) my major pneumo's happen every 3-4 years and usually after a stressful or traumatic event. Especially if you are like me and your chest tightens when stressed or anxious. Believe me you are not alone! go to pneumothorax.org they have a great online community there or please feel free to ask me whatever you would like. Take care of yourself!
Reply:This is what my Father died from.
Reply:I don´t have anything to say but take care of yourself.I know even more than you that anxiety and stress increase recurrence and they are so fatal.

The good thing is it can be cured but till then take care.
