Is the NHL (Teams, Managers, Players) worried that Canadian money is almost AT PAR these days??

I live right near the U.S. border and just this afternoon, at a Canadian bank, they were only going to give me 1.035 cents for a U.S. dollar. 3.5% exchange rate!! That is just nuts! We're lucky to find places that will give 5% or 10%. How will this affect contracts, etc.?

i think if anything, its better for the league, becuase now teams like edmonton and calgary, who dont have a lot of money, can evenly compete with teams like detroit and new york on the open market.
Reply:Contracts have been in US dollars for quite some time, so it will help the economics of Canadian based teams, not just in the NHL, but basketball and baseball teams that have cross-border travel and accomodation costs as well.
Reply:It makes it easier for the Canadian teams to not earn in low Canadian dollars while paying out in high US dollars.. For American teams it won't make much of a difference, some travel costs to Canada may be higher. Nothing more.
Reply:I agree with Puck. Analysts are saying that the US dollar won't dominate the Loonie again until the end of 2007. This isn't enough time to move a hockey team, but it definitely helps.
Reply:Most contracts are in US dollars, the salary cap is set in US dollars if the canadian dollar continues to rise it will benift the canadian teams because there gate revenue is in canadian dollar.
