I over tighten my lug nuts on my wheel, and now i have 2 studs left on my wheel, how do i replace em?

when i over tighten the lugs, and of 3 of em like fell off and now i have 2 studs left on my wheel, i'm lucky that there is one on each side of the wheel. but really need to know is how to repair or replace the 3 studs that fell off.....

Ok this is not hard at all.


First begin by jacking the car up and supporting it with stands.


Remove the Caliper and rotor or brake drum.


drive the old studs out with a Punch and hammer.


Go to the local parts store and buy the correct studs and nuts for your car. They should only be around $1.50 a piece.


Go back to the car and put the new ones in by rotating the hub till the hole lines up so that you can install the stud.


Now put the nuts back on and draw the stud into the hub assembly some.


Now simply put the rest of the car back together and tighten the lugs to draw the studs the rest of the way in.


Run the car down the road for about 5 to 10 miles and re tighten the lugs to make sure they did not come loose.


Your done.

Reply:You can take them to the shop and get them welded on. It is pretty inexpensive, and doesn't take long. But if you have a welding machine out back. You can do it your self.
Reply:For the 3 that broke, get a bigger hammer and punch them through, go to your local auto parts store and buy new studs.


Put studs in holes and seat by torque'ing the lug nuts again.





This time, set the torque to what it is supposed to be.
Reply:You have to remove the rotor and depending on what car you have the wheel studs will be located on the rotor or the axle.They are easily tapped out and the new ones are put in and tightened once the wheel and lugs are re attached.
Reply:remove the drum or caliper, and drive out what's left go get some new lug bolts and drive them back in, it's easier to let the shop do it.


MAKE SURE YOU use a torque wrench.
Reply:Go to the auto shop and they will remove and replace them for you at little or no cost. One of mine broke off a while back (the shop actually DID it!) and it was free (elsewhere) to have it replaced and took about 5 min.
Reply:they are usually pressed in from the back. Go to a auto junkyard and get some more, they are standard in the US cars.
